Giprogazcentr is a division of Gazprom, which is the largest gas company in the world. Giprogazcentr is one of the leading design enterprises of the Russian gas industry. The institute has created projects for more than 36 000 km of various diameters of gas pipeline, about 170 compressor rooms, more than 1100 gas-distributing stations and 160 gas-filling compressor stations. They have also produced about 200 km of electrical mains, 9550 km point-to-point local connection lines, 826 km of channels for linear tele-control systems, and 167 base stations for VHF-radio communication. Giprogazcentr conducts design works all over the Russian Federation, and also in Turkmenia, Bulgaria, Germany, Kazakhstan, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Turkey, and Uzbekistan and in the Ukraine.
In the middle of 2005 the institute started designing new projects in PLANT-4D. Initially the quantity of licenses used was small, but this quantity was enough to prove the efficiency of new technologies and run them on small equipment designs; including revamp projects.
In the beginning of 2006 the management of the institute set the task to pass on complex 3D design within the whole institute. The number of PLANT-4D workstations was thus increased.
The new compressor project for the Kamensk-Shachtinskaya station was one of the first projects completed in PLANT-4D. It was required as soon as was practicable to generate the qualitative design and estimate documentation, to realize in practice all the advantages of working in PLANT-4D (parallel designing, detection of collisions, coordination between different departments) and to achieve greater visual expression of the project for the customer and the contractor.
In the June of last year in St. Petersburg, Russia, took place a competition of professional skills for computer design with the participation of leading design institutes of Gazprom. 28 projects have been presented there including the project of the Kamensk-Shachtinskaya compressor station. The result of the competition is a third place in the nomination "The best project in the field of computer designing".
The dynamics of 3D design development
The technology of 3D design has been introduced into Giprogazcentr over the past six months.
Here are the basic stages of this process:
- Autumn 2005 - the first "working" 3D-projects;
- Early 2006 - purchase of new PLANT-4D workstations;
- March-April 2006 - training of in-house experts;
- March-June 2006 - implementation of the real project.
Experts of the company "Giprogazcentr" declared PLANT-4D to be the most efficient 3D designing system.
