Plant-4D in all its prospects implemented at Marine Service Noord B.V. M.S.N. is specialized in engineering and the installation of piping systems for engine rooms for oceangoing sea ships. The company was founded in 1988 and from the heart of the Northern Netherlands shipbuilding industry she serves a wide circle of clients, both in the Netherlands and abroad.

Technological developments in overseas transports are taking place in a fast rate. This demands close interaction with the client and the ability to anticipate. M.S.N. follows the latest developments in shipping and shipbuilding and is therefore able to supply top quality products entirely to the technical requirements of a ship.

Shipbuilding is an extremely complex matter. With its high level of specialist knowledge and advanced use of Plant-4D, the Engineering department of M.S.N. is able to respond highly efficient to this complexity. Using Plant-4D in an SQL-server environment with AutoCAD user interface, the calculation and design is a precise interpretation of the specific standards required for each type of ship. Whether this involves multi purpose cargo vessels, dredgers, container ships, and ships for the transportation of dangerous goods or product tankers.

Plant-4D implementation project

Starting in September 1999 with the sub-project Plant-4D P&ID, Marine Service and CEA Systems have created a SQL database, to make sure that all the involved departments can use the same database although they need different properties of the same components. Plant-4D also gives the possibility to structure the engineering department even more efficient with a less failure sensitive drawing output.

The next step is implementing Plant-4D Pipe modules and Isometrics. The generated output of these products will be used at the production facilities of M.S.N. named IMPAS B.V. This digital output is able to control directly the cutting and bending machines of IMPAS B.V. With this implementations the efficiency, quality and accuracy of the whole process will increase.

Design on the basis of consultations

The calculations methods are created on the basis of extensive consultations with the client and the suppliers of components. All involved personal is working in a project-team to which external advisers can be added. With this method M.S.N. uses the co-operative strength of everybody to come to the best possible solutions, fulfilling the clients demands and requirements.
